G'day Ric,
Likewise regarding Bing. Google is the main Search Engine without question.
I've read that Bing and Yahoo are joining forces and approval has been granted for this to happen in Australia. Just what will come of this who knows. Maybe they can be of more use in the future. Bing in general accounts for a fraction of traffic to my site but every little bit helps.
The language pack is really only for those that are targetting Aussie markets and wish to be optimal for Bing as well as Yahoo and Google. The pack is irrelevant with regards to Yahoo and Google as they geo code by different methods.
It doesnt surprise me that Bing (Aka Microsoft) use their method as it is common to geo code via the software with microsoft products. IE: When installing windows you are given the option of choosing English (Australia) etc.
Still it doesnt hurt and Bing does send some traffic albiet small. If Bing ever pulls its finger out and downloads the internet like google at least with this pack we are well placed. Waiting for Bing to re-geo code a large site that is using the en-GB region code will take a long time for Bing to re-index. Best be prepared now rather than later.
BTW with regards to release of Joomla 1.5.16 users are urged not to use the latest release due to issues. Standby for a very quick release of 1.5.17 addressing these issues. There will be an en-AU update release after the offical 1.5.17 release with minor changes. The en-AU pack is un affected.
Cheers
P.S. Over the last month I have noticed a huge increase of bot activity (5x that of google) from both Yahoo and Bing so you never know
